Added
- Regions: Pavement pioneers — the natives that grow where the ground is packed hard, rubbly, salted or baking. Eight per region, each with the real place it does that and who documented it, as on the Mid-Atlantic's list.
- A plant that takes that punishment now says so under its name, with a tag per kind — packed ground, cracks, road salt — that explains itself when you tap it. Shown only on the regions where it's documented.
- Further reading: books, websites and a TV series for each region, chosen because an expert stands behind each one and a local society, garden or extension service recommends it.
- Further reading opens with the ideas Indigene is built on: Tallamy's Nature's Best Hope, Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass, and a skeptic's book, so both sides of the native debate are there.
- North & Central Florida grows from 24 plants to 39: persimmon, sweetbay magnolia, sparkleberry, wax myrtle, buttonbush, crossvine and more. Each is one that both Audubon and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center recommend for Florida gardens.
- The home page now ends with More to explore: the wildlife, invasives and their native swaps, look-alikes, planting how-tos and the regions map, one row and one picture each.
Changed
- Your saved spots now sit right under the start button on the home page, instead of at the very bottom.
- The native-plants promise now fits on one line: "Native means plants, not people."
- A link to Homegrown National Park now previews with its own picture: a street of yards from above, half still lawn and half gone native.
- The film on the home page no longer carries a line about the video host under it. The Privacy page still explains how the film is handled.
Fixed
- Plants: a plant's main photo is now the one iNaturalist itself chose for the species, or none. Before, some plants showed whatever free photo came next, like persimmon seeds that looked like bread. Those plants show their drawing until someone picks a photo.
- A US ZIP code no longer lands in Spain. Postal codes repeat across countries — 33812 is Lakeland, Florida and a village in Asturias — so search now lists each country once, yours first. Thanks to Rikki Ocampos (@rikkibelle) for reporting it.
- Words a page stresses now show in bold or italic, not between stray asterisks — on plant pages, look-alikes, native swaps and planting guides. The brimstone line on alder buckthorn is one.
- Plants: a page that is still fetching no longer sits blank. A seedling grows while you wait — stem, leaves, then a flower — and steps aside the moment the page arrives.
