Every change
How where the numbers come from grew, newest first — the same plain notes that go out with each update.
Version 0.36
October 2, 2026- how sure we are of a plant's figures is now a three-bar meter instead of a paragraph. Tap it for what each level means.
- On a laptop, the home page puts the film beside the pitch, and Settings shows its cards two abreast. About, Privacy & safety and Where our numbers come from list their sections beside the text.
Version 0.27
August 28, 2026- Where our numbers come from now says why we believe them. The page adds the four questions a source has to answer before we use it, and is plain that a person, not a database, writes every line. Where our numbers come from
Version 0.26
August 9, 2026- Twenty plants were citing a command you can't run. Their sources note said a plant was "surfaced by
npm run candidates" — one of our tools, meaningless to a reader. It names the evidence now: "Occurrence records in this region's box: 6,819 (GBIF)."
Version 0.25
August 8, 2026- Every new pairing names the study that found it — a Swiss food web, a European pollinator network, the Natural History Museum's world list of what caterpillars eat. The sources page says so too.
Version 0.19
August 1, 2026- Indigene's French is now, plainly, the French of France. A bleuet is a blueberry in Montréal and a cornflower in France, and we had been taking names from both countries' lists at once. Where the names come from says which French it means.
- The quarterly check that keeps those names honest had stopped checking. France's national list had been answering nothing at all, and the check read that silence as "no French name exists". A list that answers nothing now fails loudly instead of passing.
Version 0.13
July 29, 2026- A page that shows our working. Where our numbers come from says where every figure comes from, and marks each as counted, calculated or estimated. It names the numbers most likely to be wrong, starting with our 0–100 scores. We'd rather be corrected than believed.
- "Where our numbers come from" is easier to read. The page was one long list ending in capsules — COUNTED, WORKED OUT, OUR ESTIMATE. The numbers are now grouped under Counted, Calculated and Estimated, firmest first, with a sentence saying what each means.
Version 0.2
July 15, 2026- Every plant's naming and classification is backed by named, linkable taxonomy sources.
