Every change
How will native plants bring pests? grew, newest first — the same plain notes that go out with each update.
Version 1.1
October 17, 2026- the "Near the vegetables" line is off every plant page. It said the same thing on all of them, so it lives once, as the Natives & crops card on the Plants index.
Version 0.36
October 2, 2026- A few facts were wrong: chickadees need yards that are at least about 70% native plants (we had it backwards), butterflies do sip rotting fruit, and peppers come from Mexico, not the Andes.
Version 0.33
September 24, 2026- the plant list has a fourth card at the top, for the question that stops people between choosing a native and digging the hole — will it bring pests?
Version 0.32
September 19, 2026- Will the bees and birds you invite eat your fruit and vegetables? A new page answers it with what farms measured when they planted wildflower borders. Every plant's page links to it.
- the same page shows how some natives take a pest away. The spotted lanternfly leans on tree-of-heaven, the soybean aphid winters on buckthorn, the ticks shelter under barberry — swap the plant, cut the chain.
- four drawings instead of four more paragraphs — who eats what, those three pest chains, the fat in a native berry against an invasive one, and a two-column ledger of what the bird evidence does and doesn't show.
- a section for the evidence that argues back, at full strength — where borders don't help, which natives are a bad neighbour for apples or strawberries, and the ecologists who say origin is the wrong question.
